Josephine Shepherd paints mainly in oil on canvas, and finds her inspiration in people she knows or places she visits. Largely, she enjoys the depiction of natural form; whether it be portraiture or landscapes. She is obsessively drawn to the way light manifests these subjects and reveals them, and feels that striving for the truthful representation of this, allows her to explore and share her experiences and understanding of these subjects with the viewer. “I find the way light falls and changes, endlessly fascinating.”

 

Jo always aspired to be a painter, perhaps due to a strong artistic tradition in her family. After a foundation at Chelsea College, she studied Fine Art at the Slade School of Art, London.
